Hello from Toronto

2005/10/05

Hello from big TO! I've been here for a month now and lots has been happening - classes, friends, soccer games, church stuff. I'm glad to be here but I'll be glad to be finished too. I've got 6 hours of classes a week but many, many, hours of homework and research. It is a good place to be doing research, though! I mean, U of T's main library is nicknamed "Fort Book!" We've also got that whopping project, The Dictionary of Old English (though it's only gotten to the letter F so far), and the PIMS (Pontifical Institute for Mediæval Studies) Library and Thomas Fisher library, where I get to look at and touch manuscripts, so far as old as the thirteenth century!

So, other than lots of studies I've been playing some soccer with my residence (Wycliffe College - an Anglican graduate school that is part of U of T and smack dab in the middle of the downtown campus), whipping the boys into shape in foosball, experiencing some of the tastes of downtown Toronto restaurants (sushi, falafels, Vietnamese, ice cream, more Asian cuisine...), socializing, and playing bass & keyboard at my church, Walmer Road Baptist. It's been a great time of challenges and growth for me. Prayers mean a lot to me, and are definitely powerful, so if you want to pray for me here are some things: mostly just personal growth within myself and within relationships and balancing time with all the many things that need to be done and are available to do. I need to both take care of myself and friendships and get through my course work - not always an easy task.

I really miss people from home so keep in touch (via email is the best) PLEASE!
